10 Tips on Staying Organized During Harvest

The 2024 crop year is coming to a close with #Harvest24 in full swing. Prepping for harvest is one thing, but staying organized during harvest is another. Take 5 minutes each day to organize any scale tickets or proof of production to make reporting in a few months a breeze.

Here are ASA’s tips:

  1. Utilize ASA Harvest Packets for keeping tickets organized by field.
  1. Check your insurance maps to determine how NIRR and IRR acres need to be split
  1. Call your agent if you are going to be chopping silage, you will need an appraisal before you chop.
  1. Have a meeting with your agent before harvest begins to review any specific requirements for your farm’s production reporting.
  1. Make sure bins that will be having grain put into them are empty. If they are not, an adjuster will need to measure the bin BEFORE new crop is put in.
  1. Report any potential losses to your agent as soon as you think there may be a loss.
  1. Get copies of delivery reports from elevators / feedyards and let them know who your crop insurance agent is in case we have questions.
  1. Ask the elevator if they can put field names on loads. This will help if a physical ticket gets lost.
  1. If putting multiple fields into one bin, mark the side of the bin with tape and sharpie where one field stops, and the next one starts.
  1. Call your agent if you have any questions about what records are needed. It is easier to do this before harvest than after the field has been harvested.

Ag Service Associates is here to assist you with keeping up with your production records. These records are the most important aspect of your crop insurance policy. They are used to pay claims and maintain your actual production history (APH). Your APH is utilized to establish your insurance guarantees and will affect your insurance coverage for many years to come if they are not reported correctly. Our agents advise producers with various sized farming operations on how to keep records organized.
